Leonardo DiCaprio Championed for Environmental Awareness During his Oscar Acceptance Speech

Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Academy Award for best actor, then put a spotlight on climate change.

DiCaprio best know for his role in titanic won his first Oscar for his portrayalof a Late 18th century frontiersman in The Revenant. This was his fifth nomination yet it was the first time he had won the award. He took much of the time to warn about the dangers of climate change. Noting, the difficulties film makers had recreating the snowy tundra of the late 18th century Dakotas.

He went on say that they had to shoot the film in the norther most tip of Canada. He spoke of this was the warmest year in recorded history and how climate change effects all of us in the world equally and warned “Let’s us not take this planet for granted. I do not take this night for granted”

He was not the only person to speak on climate change. Jenny Beavan, who one for best costume design for Mad Max: Fury Road. Beavan also said if changes are not made Mad Max is a likely future.
