New Years Resolution -Tips for a Green 2017

Did you know that only 8% of people achieve their New Year’s resolutions? Perhaps it’s because they fail to set up a plan for their big ‘New Year New Me’ goal.

Not to worry, we’ve got your phase one plan for a greener 2017 covered. All you have to do is implement it.

1). Save Water
Do you leave the sink running when you brush your teeth? Not in 2017 you don’t! You waste about 5 gallons of water when you leave the sink running while you brush your teeth. That means 10 gallons a day if you practice decent dental hygiene. Turn the faucet off this year. Save water.

2.) Unplug…Literally.
Not only should you take a step back from your daily hustle-and-bustle to unwind and get some fresh air, you should also make it a habit to start unplugging those phone chargers, computer chargers, hair dryers, and so on when you’re done using them. Seem like too much work? Make the investment into a smart power strip and it’ll shut off when it detects that nothing is in use!

3.) Ditch the Plastic Bags
Seriously, plastic is SO 2015. Bring your own bags when you shop. All the cool kids are doing it! On top of that, the straps are usually longer and more comfortable. You know what that means? An easier time carrying the groceries inside. Who needs to make double trips to the car? Not you!

4.) BYOC
We all know that come the Monday morning work day coffee is a necessity. Rather than using a plastic cup that the shop provides, bring your own aluminum one! Pretty much every coffee shop is okay with filling up your own cup.

5.) Use Your Hands
Look at your hands. Right now. When was the last time you made something with them? Forgo the takeout. By making something at home, you cut down on the processing, packaging, and means of transportation that it takes for that food to get to your plate. You can also buy locally grown produce for an even greener alternative! So make dinner. You don’t have to be Rachel Ray to whip up something simple. You might shock yourself.
